C1 Technique
Level 1 > Forward paddling
Body
- Forward lean from the hips (not from mid or upper back)
- Back solid and straight through the stroke
- Flat boat with minimal rocking
Catch
- Full vertical blade as close as possible to the boat
- Back straight, torso rotated, lower arm fully extended
- 'A' shape with boat, paddle and body
Pull
- Vertical blade pulling with back then arms, winding in torso twist
- Rigid set lower back
- Thrusting through with knees
- Stopping at hips
3 Methods of steering
- Use of occasional offside edge
- Use of J Stroke (turning face of blade outwards by the hips)
- Use of occasional cross-bow power stroke
